FAQ

The Questions We Hear Most.

Straight answers to what people usually want to know before reaching out.

Is Markell a fiduciary?

Yes. As an Investment Advisory Representative of RFG Advisory, LLC, a registered investment adviser, Markell has a fiduciary duty to act in your best interest. That means recommendations are based on what makes sense for your situation, not what pays the highest commission.

What does the planning process look like?

It starts with a short introductory call, followed by a discovery meeting focused on your goals and values, and a numbers meeting where we match your finances against what matters most to you. If we’re a fit, we move forward together. See our full Process page for more detail.

Do you help with executive compensation and stock options?

Yes. We help clients understand their equity compensation and think through the timing and tradeoffs involved, always as part of a broader financial plan rather than a decision made on its own.

How do you coordinate with my CPA or attorney?

We work alongside the professionals you already trust. On the tax side, we coordinate directly with your CPA on tax-aware strategies. On the estate side, we work with your estate planning attorney to help make sure your financial plan and legal documents are aligned, and we can make an introduction if you need one.

I’m supporting my kids and caring for aging parents. Can you help with that too?

Yes. Many of the families we work with are managing exactly that: planning for their own retirement while supporting adult children and caring for aging parents at the same time. We build plans that consider both directions of the family, not just one. Read more about planning for two directions at once.
